Description

Along with many of his contemporaries such as Nic Jones, Tony Rose and Martin Carthy, Dave Burland is one of the seminal influences of the Folk Revival and an inspiration to following generations of folk artists. A highly respected and long-established performer, Dave has a wide repertoire of material ranging from the traditional to the contemporary.

Since 1968 he has toured throughout Europe, Hong Kong and Australia and been a welcome guest at clubs and festivals throughout the UK. The rich, mellow tones of Dave’s voice and his distinctive guitar style have featured on over 50 albums and recordings alongside the likes of Richard Thompson, Kate Rusby, Dick Gaughan, Bob Pegg, Nic Jones, Mike Harding, Hedgehog Pie and The Albion Band. For over thirty years he also fronted the ever-popular Shagpile at UK festivals providing many ‘Bop til You Drop’ nights of rock n roll. On this new recording, ‘Okkard’, Dave is joined by fellow Shagpile members Dave Fisher on vocals, keyboards, lap steel and pedal steel guitars and Bryan Ledgard on vocals and percussion.

As well as a deep sense of passion for traditional songs, their eclectic taste stretches to work by Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Steve Goodman, Lowell George and The Delmore Brothers. It is a collection of songs that all three musicians regard as classic material. The album was recorded at The Headshed in South Yorkshire in masterful style by Julie Matthews who, with Chris While, accompanies Dave and the Squad on backing vocals for two tracks.
